Adventures await....
Travel is always an adventure and Spain is no different. I love experiencing new things, trying new food and setting out to places unknown. Today, I borrowed a car, and set out for the airport alone in a foreign country to a city an hour and a half away. The car has manual transmission which I haven't driven in about 10 years, but I was up for the challenge!! Thanks to the GPS, it was a fun adventure. As I was driving and enjoying the countrysides of Spain, it just amazed me that I was looking on one side at the Mediterranean Sea and on the other, I viewed the mountains with small villages. I went through long tunnels and over high bridges, just enjoying the sights and the ride. Oh - and did I mention that there are NO real speed limits? What fun!! :)
Charles joined us today. His flight went through Miami, then through Madrid before arriving Malaga, so he had a very long trip. However, it's great that he can join me on our adventure to Spain and I was glad to see him!!
Tonight, we (Janet, Charley, Loretta and girls) met David at the local electronics store after work. We were able to communicate together in Spanish to get Loretta a temporary cell phone, which was an accomplishment. The clerks are super helpful, when you finally find the right department, but it always takes on a new dimension to do it in Spanish. Afterwards, we went to a wonderful local pizza shop - Leonardos...Yum, Yum!! It was fabulous with Spanish bruscetta, salad with avocado, raspberries and fresh parmasan, and a margherita pizza. The olive oil is truly different here and everything tastes so fresh. We enjoyed every single bite! Sometimes, its the simple things that keep us going....I would be a very frequent customer of that eatery!
I also wanted to add to yesterday's post about Gilbraltar....The airport there was just amazing to me. Since Gibraltar is mainly rock and has no place to land a plane, they had to be creative. They only have about 5-7 flights a day, so they utilized the ONLY flat place they could find - the highway that connects Gilbraltar to Spain!! It's so interesting.....they simply close down the highway when a plane comes in, calling it a LIVE runway!! We were lucky enough to be leaving when a flight was coming in. They put down the railroad type crossing arm, stopped the traffic while the flight landed, then allowed traffic right back through. When we stopped, I jumped out of the car and ran to the front so that I could get this on camera!! I love these types of experiences!! More tomorrow hopefully!!
